Save Me - Philippine Cockatoo

The Philippine Cockatoo AKA Red-vented Cockatoo AKA Cacatua haematuropygia AKA katala (local name). The critically endangered katala is a Philippine endemic and used to be found all over the country. At present, "sizable" populations are found only in Palawan and Sulu. Rasa Island in southern Palawan is estimated to host 10% of the remaining population.

This photo was taken in Lagen Island, El Nido, Palawan as part of the first-ever Philippine Cockatoo Translocation Project, an initiative of the Katala Foundation, Inc (KFI), an NGO dedicated to saving the Philippine cockatoo. The red markings on the wings of this bird are INK and were made for monitoring purposes.
